Sharepoint function “Open with Explorer” greyed out in Internet Explorer

A user that had downgraded Internet Explorer to version 9 hade a problem with SharePoint. The user couldn’t use “Open with Explorer” on a document library becuase the “Open with Explorer” icon was greyed out. I found out that the user was using Internet Explorer 64-bit and after switching to the 32-bit version the problem was solved.
